ROOT VEGETABLES/ KINDERGARTEN

We read the book, The Gigantic Turnip, which is an old Russian Folktale.

I distributed photographs of a variety of root vegetables and we talked about how they resemble shapes we know. Carrots are like long triangles, and many of the veggies start with circles. Some students were uncertain about how to draw the leaves. Many used ovals to start. We talked about the veins in leaves, too, which many included. I think that they are the "spice," visually, of this project.

We drew the veggies, outlined them with Sharpie markers, and painted them.

I distributed palettes with these colors: orange, magenta, creamy white, and green. The students were able to draw and paint these projects during one class period. They are adorable, I think.
